The Digital Education Office is carrying out a project to evaluate captions generated by automatic speech recognition (ASR) in Re/Play recordings across all schools at the University.
As part of this work, a team of Postgraduate Student Caption Editors will review and edit automatically generated captions to assess their accuracy and help us identify areas for improvement.
A selection of recordings will be included in the project. These will be edited in a secure test environment, and the revised caption files will be offered to the recording owner once the project is complete.
We will automatically exclude content where data protection or other legislation (such as the Human Tissue Act) would prevent the distribution of materials beyond a specific audience. We will also ensure that students working to review captions do not encounter material that may unfairly advantage them in their own studies (such as by exposing them to content they will encounter later in their studies).
