Re/Play not recording automatically 19/02/2019

We have been made aware that there is an error in some timetabling data that means that lectures cannot be identified as being automatically scheduled by Re/Play and so are not being recorded.  The timetabling team are looking into the matter as a priority and we will update the blog with further information.

In the mean time we would advise lecturers to use the ad-hoc recorder to record their sessions. Please see our Re/Play organisation for further information on using the app, there should also be instructions in lecture theatres.

Errors uploading zip files to Turnitin

We have had reports from some users that uploading zip files to Turnitin is giving the error ‘Zip file submission is currently unavailable.’

This appears to be an intermittent error that occurs at times of high workload for Turnitin and currently the advice is to try the upload again at a later time.  The Digital Education Office are in touch with Turnitin about the error and will update this blog with any further information.

Make your Blackboard courses for TB2 available to students

As an Instructor, if under “My Courses” on your Blackboard home page  you see “not currently available” or “unavailable” after the course name, this means the course is unavailable to students. Instructors can still access and edit the course.

There are two ways to make your courses available to students

  • You can use the Quick Tools on your Blackboard Home page. Click Course Availability and turn the On/Off button next to the course to the required state.

OR

  • Click on the course
  • Under Control Panel, click on Customisation
  • Click on Properties
  • In section 3, Set availability, select Yes
  • Click Submit

If you have any problems or queries please contact Digital-Education@bristol.ac.uk

The “Quick Tools” in Blackboard will be unavailable between 1:00 pm on 3 January and 12:00 noon 4 January

The “Quick tools” feature (pictured below) will be temporarily unavailable between 1:00 pm on 3 January and 12:00 noon 4 January. This is to allow us to update the tool. No other features of Blackboard are affected.
Quick Tools - Course Availability for Students and Post Announcements to Multiple Courses

The “Quick Tools” allow instructors to post announcements to multiple courses and toggle course availability for students. These actions can still be performed within individual courses during this brief update period. See:

Blackboard planned maintenance – service at risk 9 pm Sunday 16 December to 9 am Monday 17 December

We are planning a minor update to Blackboard between 9 pm on Sunday 16 December and 9 am on Monday 17 December. We will confirm the maintenance following further testing of the update. If we can proceed with the work, there will be unavailability over this period and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Problems uploading submissions to Turnitin using the Safari browser

We have recently identified problems when trying to upload submissions to Turnitin using the Safari browser (version 12.0) where the upload appears to hang and never completes.

We have three recommendations to fix this issue.

  1. Try working in a different browser, both Chrome and Firefox can be downloaded and used on a Mac.
  2. Clear the cache on your browser. You can find guidance on how to do this by going to refreshyourcache.com
  3. You can also follow these instructions to change the settings in Safari Preferences:
    1. Go to Safari Preferences > Privacy Tab > Manage Website Data.
    2. Look for and remove the three cached websites listed below:
      1. googlesyndication.com
      2. Googleservices.com
  • turnitinuk.com or turnitin.com
  1. Close and reopen Safari.
  2. Try submitting again.
